Some Thoughts and Insights about Instant Cameras

Perhaps you have noticed in some films, particularly old and period ones, certain cameras that are able to readily give out a photo print seconds after a shot is taken. Well, what you have seen are in fact instant cameras, which are quite effective in taking and printing shots for instant identifications cards, ultrasound photos, and passport pictures.

Although instant cameras are not as many or common today as digital ones, they remain existent, and the leading brand that popularised them years ago is planning to release a new wave of instant cameras middle of 2010. Also, another manufacturer has just recently released its mini-instant camera, which is five-by-five by two inches in dimension. Still bulky really, but the fact that it is already a miniature of its predecessors, with the capability of using ten instant films at a time, makes it a great buy.

Instant cameras are not just ideal for a niche market that demands to see printed results right away. In fact, they are used to supplement high-end digital cameras of professional and amateur photographers who would like to first see a preview of the lighting mix before they eventually use a more expensive medium. Additionally, instant cameras are used by artists in the transfer and manipulation of images. Today, many modern instant cameras feature smaller sizes, automatic built-in flash, faster electronic shutter, and light exposure indicator.

Although digital cameras have dominated the photography industry, almost in totality, they have never successfully eliminated the need for instant cameras. Thus, certain manufacturers remain convinced of the viability of reproducing instant cameras, and innovating them to suit the more demanding and highly changing needs of the market.
